The Bosch washing machine finished washing, you went to it to get and hang clean clothes, but when you pulled the handle, you found that the machine would not open. What are the reasons why the door of the Bosch washing machine does not unlock, and what to do in such a situation, we will talk in this article.

What can you do yourself

Do not rush to call the master, perhaps you can deal with the problem yourself. Check out the following reasons.

• The thermal tablet has not cooled down in thermoelectric UBL. In such types of locks, when voltage is applied to it, the thermoelement heats up the bimetallic plate, it bends and pushes the curtain. As a result, the door is blocked. After the end of washing, the bimetallic plate does not cool down immediately, but within 3-5 minutes. Therefore, if you try to open the door right after the end of the wash, you will not succeed. Wait a few minutes for the plate to cool down, the machine unlocks, and open the sunroof.
• A control unit failure has occurred. Sometimes, especially after power surges, the electronics of the washing machine fail. To fix it, try unplugging the washing machine for 10-15 minutes, and then plug it back in. If the failure was one-time, the electronics will reboot, the hatch will unlock, and the Bosch machine will open.
• The electricity is off. Perhaps it was turned off throughout the house, in the apartment, or the machine was knocked out only on the line to which the washing machine is connected. For this reason, the machine did not complete the program and hung with the door closed. If there is a blackout in the entire house, contact the power supply company. If electricity is lost only in the apartment or on the line to which the Bosch washing machine is connected, then the reason for this may be a faulty machine (introductory to the apartment or the one on which the washing machine “hangs”), overloading the line with powerful electrical appliances or a breakdown of the device. Possible malfunctions

The sunroof blocking device is out of order

UBL (door blocking device or lock) blocks the door of the washing machine during operation. It consists of a thermoelement, a bimetallic plate, a shutter and a housing. When voltage is applied to the UBL, the thermoelement heats up the bimetallic plate, it bends under the action of heat and shifts the curtain, which grabs the tongue of the door. This is how the hatch is blocked.

When the wash ends, the control module stops supplying voltage to the lock, as a result, the bimetallic plate cools down, bends back, the curtain returns to its original position, and the door is unlocked. Over time, the bimetallic plate loses its flexibility, so after washing it does not bend back, the door does not unlock, and the machine does not open.

The handle of the machine is mechanically broken

The handle is designed to open the hatch. When you pull on it, the handle presses on the spring, the tongue of the door that fixes the hatch moves away and the machine opens. The handle is made of plastic, therefore, due to careless handling or the use of excessive physical force, it easily breaks mechanically at the attachment points inside the hatch.

Faulty control module

The control board is called the “brains” of the washing machine. It is a microcircuit with radioelements and tracks. The board receives signals and gives commands to all other nodes of the machine. If during washing it is “stuck” in the position of applying voltage to the lock (UBL), then the washing machine does not open. The reasons for the failure of the board are power surges or moisture ingress into the control unit.

How to eliminate

The master checks all radio elements in the UBL circuit, identifies faulty ones and replaces them with new ones. If the processor of the control module is out of order, then the board changes completely.

How to open a Bosch washing machine after washing if the door is locked

For safety reasons, before opening the washing machine, disconnect the power supply by unplugging the plug from the socket.

Note! If the washer does not open, do not forcefully pull the handle. You can break it, and then, at a minimum, you will have to change the handle for a new one.

There are four universal methods on how to open the door in a faulty washing machine, and one that is only suitable for the Bosch brand. We have listed them in order of increasing difficulty. Which method is right for your Bosch typewriter depends on the model and the reason why it does not open.

Method 1 – unplug the washing machine

Unplug the Bosch washing machine from the socket, wait 10-15 minutes and try to open the door. This method will help if the board malfunctions. When disconnected from the mains, the voltage will stop being supplied to the lock, the tablet will cool down, the bimetallic plate will return to its original position, and the door will be unlocked.

Method 2 – pull the emergency door opening cable

Some models of Bosch washing machines are equipped with an emergency cable for emergency door opening. It is located behind the drain filter hatch of the machine and usually has a bright color: yellow, red, orange. Pull on it and the hatch will open.

Method 3 – use fishing line, ruler or bank card

Insert a card or ruler into the space between the door and the body of the Bosch washer near the lock. Press them on the tongue towards the center of the hatch, and the door will open. You can also use fishing line or thin rope. With them we hook the tongue from the side of the lock and also pull towards the center of the hatch. The method is great for a broken handle of a typewriter, but there are exceptions. In some Bosch models, when opening, the tongue does not move towards the center of the hatch, but in the opposite direction, so this method is not suitable.

Method 4 – use a spoon or knife (for Bosch models with a hatch hook that bends towards the lock)

This method is used for Bosch washing machine models with a broken handle, in which the hook is bent to the side of the hatch when the hatch is opened, and not to the center (for example, in Bosch Serie 6 VarioPerfect, Bosch Logixx 6 Sensitive and others). In this case, the universal method with a fishing line, ruler or bank card is not suitable, and you need to act differently. Take a spoon and stick it with the opposite end into the space between the handle and the frame of the hatch approximately in the center of the handle. There is a paw. Press down on the foot with a spoon with force, the tongue of the door will bend, and the door will open. A knife instead of a spoon is also suitable.

Method 5 – Disassemble the washing machine to get to the lock

This is the most difficult way to open a locked washing machine door. It is worth resorting to if others have not come up. Most often, it is enough to remove the top cover of the Bosch washing machine, stick your hand to the lock, reach for the locking tab and take it to the side. But each model may have its own nuances of disassembly.
